Social Events: 1 October 2007

Chestnut Ridge WaterfrontBe sure to save time for the social activity scheduled for Monday, October 1! We will be going to Camp Chestnut Ridge in nearby Efland, NC.

Update:
Please dress for the day according to the activity you have selected. For example, if you have selected horseback riding or high ropes course, you will want to wear long pants and appropriate shoes.

The buses will depart the Washington Duke Inn on Monday promptly at 12:30 P.M. Also, the buses will not return to your hotel prior to the dinner, so you may want to bring alternate clothing, especially if you are participating in any water activities. There are restrooms where you may change if needed.

Weather permitting, there is swimming available, so you will need to bring a change of clothes and towels as well.

Activists and passivists will be able to choose from a wide range of outdoor activities, including:
  • Low ropes and high ropes courses—These courses offer experiential adventures involving mental, physical, and emotional risk-taking. Each course includes a range of stations—with names such as Two-line Bridge, Criss-cross, Pulley Walk/Heeby Jeeby, Incomplete Bridge, Slow Dance, Pipe Dream, Multi-vine, and The Climb Up—each emphasizing a different challenge. Some are cooperative, partner-based experiences and others are personal limit-pushing endeavors.

  • Zipline—Take a ride on a 530–foot-long zipline that stretches across a lake—a crowd favorite!

  • Horseback riding—Horses, tack, helmets, and expert guidance are provided for you and your party. Enjoy the beautiful, rolling hills and green, mature forest while riding the trails at Chestnut Ridge.

  • Educational programs—Embark a herpetology hike or learn about local wildlife from a camp counselor.

Other activities will include sketching and drawing, outdoor exploring, fishing, canoeing, hayrides, and making s'mores. All participants will be asked to sign up for their activities in advance via the CinC.org Website. Please review the Chestnut Ridge Activity Descriptions [pdf] prior to making your selections.

Fearrington VillageFearrington Village

At 5 p.m., busses will depart for Fearrington Village, a nearby community located on farmland dating back to the 1700s. Here we’ll enjoy a traditional pig pickin’ accompanied by blue grass music. If you’ve never sampled either of these uniquely southern pleasures, you’re in for a real treat!
