Dr. McHutchison’s research interests are clinical and translational and relate to chronic viral hepatitis with a committed focus on hepatitis C virus infection. His research spans new drug discovery programs, rational trial design, outcomes, and the natural history of these diseases. He has published numerous papers and book chapters related to chronic hepatitis C virus infection.

Admitted as a fellow to the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 1987, Dr. McHutchison is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease and the European Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. He received his MD degree (1981) from the University of Melbourne, Australia, and completed his internship and residency at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia, with further training in gastroenterology and hepatology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

Andrew J. Muir, MD, MHS

Dr. Muir specializes in general and transplant hepatology, and his research interests include hepatitis C, liver transplantation, clinical trials, racial disparities in liver disease, and outcomes research. He currently serves as Clinical Director of Hepatology and Gastroenterology Fellowship Director.

After receiving his MD from the Duke University School of Medicine in 1993, Dr. Muir completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at Duke University Medical Center. He also served as Chief Resident in internal medicine.
